Strengthening the Home-School Partnership

Effective Ways to Partner with Your Child’s Teacher

At Landmark, we believe that a strong partnership between parents and teachers is essential for nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of our students. This concept is a part of our mission: Landmark Christian School partners with Christian families by equipping college-bound students to embrace a Christ-centered worldview, grow as servant leaders and steward God’s unique purpose for their lives. When parents and teachers work together in unity, grounded in Christian values, we create an environment where children can thrive. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to “train up a child in the way he should go,” and this training is most effective when home and school are aligned in purpose and practice.

Here are a few important and effective ways that you can partner well with your child’s teacher(s):

  1. Communicate Often and Openly – One of the most effective ways to build this partnership is by establishing open and respectful communication with your child’s teacher. Regular check-ins, whether through email, parent-teacher conferences, or informal conversations, help keep you informed about your child’s progress and any areas where additional support might be needed. When initiating these check-ins, approach them with a spirit of collaboration, understanding that you and the teacher are on the same team, working together for your child’s success. Listening actively and respectfully to the teacher’s insights allows you to advocate for your child in a way that supports and complements the teacher’s efforts.
  2. Extend the Learning – Supporting your child’s learning and spiritual growth at home is crucial. One practical way to do this is by aligning home activities with what your child is learning in school. For example, if the class is studying a particular Bible story, consider discussing it together at home or finding ways to apply its lessons to everyday life. This not only reinforces academic content but also deepens your child’s understanding of how faith intersects with learning.

  3. Encouragement and Prayer – Praying for and with your child’s teacher is a powerful way to foster a strong partnership. By regularly praying for the teacher’s wisdom, patience, and guidance, you invite God’s presence into the classroom and demonstrate to your child the importance of spiritual support in their education. Consider praying for teachers on the way to school with your student. What a great way to cultivate a partnership mindset from the beginning of the day!

As we journey together in the education and spiritual development of your child, our goal is to create a deepening partnership between home and school. By maintaining open communication and supporting your child’s learning and faith at home, you contribute to an environment where your child can grow into a well-rounded, spiritually grounded leader. Through strengthening our partnership, we can greatly increase the efficacy of our efforts both at home and at school.
