Nutrition

One of the most commonly overlooked elements in providing a great education for students is nutrition. While the typical Western diet doesn’t generally leave kids malnourished from a calorie perspective, it often suffers from deficiencies in key nutrients and leads towards fluctuations in blood sugar that can have detrimental effects on the learning process.

Here are some tips to help make sure that kids are fueled for learning:

Tip #1: Prioritize protein

Protein isn’t just for bodybuilders. It’s essential for many of our biological functions. Not only that, it’s satiating. Eating protein with every meal can help make you feel full faster, longer. This, in turn, can help control appetite and reduce the cycle of binge snacking on foods that are less nutritionally complete.

Tip #2: Eat real food

The Western diet is replete with processed and ultra-processed foods. There are many potential problems with this, but a couple of those problems include poor gut health and rapid blood sugar swings due in part to a lack of fiber. For snacks, skip the chips and gummies and grab some fruit, vegetables, or nuts instead.
